YOU can make The MWTC Stronger &
Better in 2006
2006 will be a great
year for our Club! - But we all need your help and
support. As the metro area has grown,
the locations of our members’ workplaces are more spread out. We are now all over town. In light of the personal time commitment
you make to attend our speaker meetings, please know your Board of Directors
is striving to schedule exceptional quality speakers. Also, out of respect for your schedule, in 2006
you will see all luncheon meetings begin promptly at Noon and end sharply at 1:00pm.
In this way, you will be able to professionally allow for your time
out of the office. Bring a friend to a
meeting, and while you are at it, ask them to join the MWTC. You have the Board’s permission to forward
this E-newsletter to any prospective members.
You are the strength of our Club.
It’s up to You!!

Noon Luncheon Speaker Announced
The Memphis World Trade Club is pleased to announce that Mr.
Robert M. Landry, Director, Marketing Division with The
Port of New Orleans will be our January guest speaker. “Few people in our region realize the impact
the Port of New Orleans has on Mid South
business,” says Jim Woods, Club President.
“The health of the Port
of New Orleans has a
direct correlation on our volumes and dollars of commerce whether regional trucking,
warehouse, barge, insurance and so forth.
It also can have an impact on the retail price points of certain food
products; coffee for example.” Woods
went on to say, “We are honored to have Mr. Landry speak to our members and
are very interested in hearing about the state of New Orleans Port
operations today and the plans for the future.”
“While the city of New Orleans
and surrounding area sustained substantial amounts of damage, the Port of New Orleans
was more fortunate,” said Robert M. Landry, Port of New Orleans. “In fact, ships were being worked and cargo
was being handled less than two weeks after the storm. We’re operating at about 60% capacity now,
and we anticipate that figure to increase next month”, Landry said. “Both the city and the Port of New Orleans
will come back strong,” he said, “but it won’t happen overnight.”
The event will be held at The Chickasaw Country Club on Tuesday
January 24th at Noon. The luncheon speaker meeting will begin
promptly and last exactly one hour.
If you would like to attend the January Luncheon, and show some support for The port
of New Orleans after all they have done for our Club over the years,
please make your reservations online at the Club’s website: http://www.memphisworldtradeclub.com/rsvptestmwtc.php

global strategic trends—ranging from demographic change to the allocation of
scarce resources to systems of governance. The seven regions explored include
(1) Latin America and the Caribbean, (2) Europe, (3) the Middle East and
North Africa, (4) Sub-Saharan Africa, (5) Russia
and Central Asia, (6) South Asia, and (7) East and South
East Asia.

Bring a New Member Candidate to a Meeting
Right now our membership roster is hovering around 300. One of your Boards goals in 2006 is to
double our membership. This may seem a
staggering goal but if each of you brought one or two new member candidates
to a meeting, and some of them joined, this is very achievable.
Simply put, the more dues we collect the better quality events
we can host. The larger our membership
base, the better able we are to attract high quality speakers. Lastly, we need to reach out and diversify
our membership. We have a host of
truckers, air carriers, forwarders, warehouses, etc. in the club and your
continued participation is vital. We
probably would all agree that we always need more importers, exporters &
domestic shippers in our membership.
This will strengthen our Club and allow for much greater exchange of
new ideas across commercial lines.
The Boards 2006 challenge to you as Club members is to make a
sincere effort to attend every single meeting and to bring at least one New
Member Candidate to a club function.
